Remembering Our Military in November
Veterans Mass Nov. 5 at 4 pm
Nov 5 is the Veterans Mass at 4 pm. We need bake goods. Set up will be at 12 noon for anyone that wishes to help with that, but baked goods can be dropped off anytime after 3 pm on Nov. 5. (If you need items picked up, send Sue Casey an email: smbc2767@gmail.com.) Veterans should sit with their families and the priest saying the Mass will recognize them. Light refreshments will be served after mass. If there are any leftovers, we will wrap them up and serve them at the 11 am Mass on Sunday, Nov. 6, for the Deceased in the Parish.

Cards and Letters for Our Military
We will once again put out boxes at the entrances to the church and ask parishioners to write letters and cards to send to our military serving overseas during the month of November. We celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here at home but our service members are away from home during this time protecting us and keeping us safe so we can be with our family and friends. We will send off envelopes filled with cards and notes to specific members of the military to share with their platoon/troop/fellow soldiers. We are gathering names and addresses of parishioners or those known to parishioners who are serving in the military. Please pass along any names/addresses so we can mail out the cards and letters in early December.

Turkey-Rama Raffle Basket 2016
We're planning our raffle basket for this year's Turkey-Rama with the theme "Death by Chocolate." So far we have several boxes of assorted chocolates, truffles, a fondue pot with melting chocolate, tickets to the Boston Chocolate Tour. Think chocolate - hot cocoa, booze, chocolate-covered pretzels, chips, fruit; bars of chocolate, fancy stuff and plain stuff; dark, white, and milk chocolate; cookbooks, and anything else chocolate-related. All items should be dropped off at the Parish Office by Nov. 11th.

Lent 2016: Soup before Stations
In an effort to help folks attend Stations of the Cross on Wednesday evenings without having to go home from work and come back out, we served hot soup in the back of the church before Stations starting at 5:45pm and ending around 6:15pm. This went very well. We spread the word through notices on the church doors and announcements at all the Masses throughout Lent. A particular word of thanks to the Activities Committee for organizing this charitable effort in support of our troops who serve for the cause of peace. Please keep our military and their families in your prayers as we pray for all God’s people. May the peace of Christ end all war and suffering as we serve as His ambassadors of love.

Dec. 15, 2012: Food Drive for Hurricane Sandy Relief: Thank You
The OLCA Activities Club thanks everyone in the parish for their kindness and generosity in helping with the recent food drive for a food pantry at St. Mary's Parish in Lower Manhattan, which was seriously impacted by Hurricane Sandy. We received this thank you from St. Mary's in NYC: “Thank you for your spirit of giving. Receiving your donations has helped so many people in need. It was so kind of you to come and contribute to our church. We are forever grateful.” Click here to see some photos.

November 2012: Cards and Notes for Active Duty Soldiers
During the month of November, at all the doors of the church, we placed blue boxes for parishioners to drop in a note, a card, or a letter to an active duty service member. We celebrate Thanksgiving and then Christmas here at home or on the road with family and friends, but our service members are away from home during this time protecting us and keeping us safe so we can be with our friends and family. Writing a card or letter makes a great family activity, knitting group activity, or personal quiet time activity. There was no maximum or minimum on the number of cards, notes, or good wishes put in these boxes. The Activities Club took care of postage.
