Religious Education

2018-2019 Registration Form is now available.
Parent Meeting Sept. 9, 2018
First Day of Class Sept. 16, 2018
Believing that faith formation is a life-long process of learning rooted in the
celebration of Sunday Mass, the Religious Education Program (“CCD”) provides
classroom instruction for youth in grades 1 through 10 along with Sunday Mass.
Grades 1-8 have class time on Sunday mornings from 10 AM to 11:15 AM,
following the 9 AM Mass. First Communion preparation and celebration is
integrated into Grade Two curriculum. Classes begin in September and end in May and usually meet at least twice a month for a total of 22 classes. The Sadlier Publishing Program “We Believe” is the catechesis syllabus used for Grades 1-8.
Confirmation Program is a two-year course of study and service for Grades 9 & 10. Also held on Sunday mornings, class time is 9:50 AM to 10:50 AM. Students are expected to attend the 11 AM Mass following class, or attend the 9 AM Mass if family members attend that Mass. Students receive the sacrament of Confirmation in the Spring of Grade 10.
Throughout the year, for all the grades, Father DiPerri regularly meets with the
students during class time in the Church for Conferences and Adoration. Also, for
grades 3 – 8, opportunity for Confession is available by grade during class time. A Penance Service for Confirmation students is scheduled prior to the Celebration of Confirmation.
Please download the Registration Form and complete & return the form to the Parish Office with payment, or payment may follow. Please contact Felicia Forger at 781-894-3481 x3 or for confidential arrangement regarding fees, or any other questions. For school year 2017-2018, registration is currently ongoing and expected before July 15 to adequately plan staffing and supplies.

Volunteers for 2017-2018 School Year
Opportunities to volunteer as a teacher, classroom aide, hall monitor and substitute teacher are available. Religious Education volunteers receive removed or reduced tuition rates for their children in the program. Please contact Felicia Forger at 781-894-3481 x3 or on how you can join this wonderful faith-formation ministry for your parish community and for personal enrichment to your own faith-life.
All volunteers who work with children must attend a “VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children” session once and complete a CORI form yearly. To help you meet the requirement to attend VIRTUS, two sessions are scheduled for Our Lady’s: Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 6 PM and Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10 AM. Other sessions are scheduled in the Archdiocese at various parishes/times. Please visit for a list of those sessions.
First Penance and First Communion

Sacramental Information Sheets will be handed-out early Fall 2017 for each First Communicant.

Confirmation Sacramental Preparation is for students in Grades Nine and Ten attending public, private and parochial schools. Students are confirmed in Grade Ten and Confirmation rehearsal will be on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 6:30 PM in the Church. Confirmation ceremony will be Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 PM. Most Reverend Peter J. Uglietto, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia is scheduled as our celebrant.

Sacramental Information Sheets will be handed-out early Fall 2017 for each Confirmation student. Please be prepared to submit a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate if your child was not baptized or made First Communion at Our Lady’s.

Confirmation Service-to-Others for Grades 9 and 10

Service to others in the spirit of charity and good will is an important part of the Confirmation program. There is not a specific number of required hours of service, but participating in the following events is mandatory for all Confirmandi:

  • Turkey Rama which is Saturday before Thanksgiving on November 18, 2017;
  • Ham-a-Rama which is Saturday before Palm Sunday on March 24, 2018;
  • Filling of Holy Water Bottles for Easter on Monday evening March 19, 2018 and/or March 26, 2018.

Students may also consider serving as a Lector at Mass, volunteering as a Religious Education aide when Confirmation class is not in session, helping with our Baptismal ministry, helping with various projects sponsored by our Knights of Columbus Council, along with other parish needs throughout the year. Other service projects, such as cancer walks, are encouraged as well. Please inform the Coordinator of your service activities within and outside the parish.

Confirmation Retreat for Grades 9 and 10

The retreat will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Espousal Center, 554 Lexington Street, Waltham 02452. The day begins with 9 AM Mass at Our Lady’s. Immediately following Mass, students are to arrive at the Espousal Center and will remain there until the end of the retreat. Refreshments and lunch will be served. The retreat will end at 3:00 PM for 9th Graders, and at 3:30 PM for 10th Graders, who will be measured for their Confirmation Robes at the Espousal Center from 3:00 to 3:30 PM.

Written Assignment for Grade 10

Tenth graders are required to submit a short essay (one or two pages) addressing the following three questions. The essays need to be typed and due to the Coordinator in March 2018 either physically or electronically.

  1. Why did you select your sponsor?
  2. What saint’s name did you choose and why?
  3. What is your understanding of the Mass?

Confirmation Sponsor for Grade 10

All Grade 10Confirmandi need to choose a sponsor for their Confirmation, who must be a confirmed Catholic who is not the student’s parent. Students should consider a godparent as a possible sponsor because of the connection between the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Also, students should consider the following traits when picking a sponsor:

  1. Faithful to Sunday Mass and receiving sacraments;
  2. Living witness to the Catholic faith;
  3. A person of prayer;
  4. Aware of responsibility to follow Jesus in service to others;
  5. Someone who knows you well and whom you know well.
For more information on the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (for adults who wish to explore Catholic faith and prepare for any or all of the sacraments of initiation) please see our RCIA page.
Please contact Sharon Micco, Parish Office Manager, or John Barry, Religious Education, for more information on how we might assist in the baptism of youth or adult. Baptisms of young children require parents attending a Baptismal preparation class.
