ALTAR SERVER REGISTRATION - 2023-2024 Has Begun

The altar server ministry plays an important part in the life of our parish, and provides opportunities for students to get closer to God through volunteering their time and energy to serve at the altar. Please consider this opportunity for your children. Training (2 sessions) will occur Sat. Oct. 7 and 14 from 9-10am for children in grades 4-12. Each session will last one hour. A second round of training will be held on Oct. 21 and 28. Registration forms are located on the tables in the back of the church and the School and Parish Offices or via e-mail. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS THANK YOU

Your Knights of Columbus Council #14710 Our Lady’s would like to thank all who participated in our 9/28/23 Chateau fundraiser. We raised $270.00 for our Coats for Kids program. We are also in process of calculating several private donations. Your generosity will provide high quality, new coats for those children and young adults in need this winter. God Bless!

BRISTOL LODGE - FEEDING THOSE IN NEED

Anyone wishing to participate in this ministry please contact Sharon in the parish office. Our Lady’s volunteers prepare a meal on the first Tuesday, every other month beginning in February. It is unfortunate that we still cannot physically serve these folks dinner like we have done in the past as we still can only drop off the meals until further notice. But I’m sure it is still most appreciated.

A meeting is scheduled for the prior month of when the meal is due. Please keep an eye in the bulletins for those dates. If you would like to sign up, but cannot make a meeting, please email parish@olca.org and let us know how you would like to participate. 

Knowing you followed the Gospel by feeding those in need is a gratifying feeling.

THANK YOU HOLY WATER BOTTLE BRIGADE

The Holy Water Bottle Brigade was in full force on Monday evening, March 20, 2023 filling, capping, drying, and labeling about 3000 small bottles of water to be blessed at the Easter Masses. Many thanks to our Middle School and Confirmation students, along with many parishioners, for a very impressive and efficient job!

  FEAST OF ST. BLAISE - February 3, 2023

Blessing of Throats after all Masses ~ February 4/5, 2023

             Before he was made Bishop of Sebaste (the modern day city of Sivas), St Blaise practiced as a physician. Much later, he was captured for the Faith, and en route to prison, he encountered a boy who was choking from a fish bone stuck in his throat. After praying over him, the boy was cured. Due to these two facts, St Blaise is a patron saint of physicians.

             Because of St Blaise’s miraculous intercession for this young boy, the Church composed a special blessing for throats to be performed on his feast day. This sacramental, just like any other, is a proof that the Church’s motherly care and concern is not only for the spiritual good of the faithful through the Mass and the sacraments, but also for their smaller daily needs. The timing of this blessing is also rather opportune, since sickness is not uncommon around this time of year. In addition to ailments of the throat, this blessing also wishes a deliverance from every other evil, both material and spiritual. 

             Such a blessing is termed a “sacramental”. The sacramentals are not necessary because Our Lord didn’t institute them to give grace of themselves as the sacraments do. But they do give grace according to the devotion with which they are received. They are also very helpful in encouraging us to live out our Faith more fully, helping us to see that everything we do should become an act of worship, an opportunity for sanctification.

             Let us strive to receive this blessing of St. Blaise with renewed fervour, especially having in mind the intention of the Church – to deliver us from all evils.

Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil: in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

OUR LADY'S PARISH/OUR LADY'S ACADEMY NOW HAS AN AFFILIATED SCOUT TROOP!

Our Lady’s Parish and Our Lady’s Academy has a Scout BSA troop and is forming a Cub Scout troop to welcome younger scouts. The troop meets at Our Lady’s Academy each Tuesday during the school year at 7:00pm. Scouting is a program dedicated to leadership, outdoor adventures, and character building. Our new affiliation brings an incredible opportunity for your son or daughter to participate onsite and carpooling is available! To learn more about Scouting, we will have five short stories about our troop - starting now! 

“My son discovered Scouting towards the beginning of the pandemic, and it has become a huge part of his life ever since. I watched him transition from boredom to excitement about the next planned activity. I watched him develop an incredible sense of pride from each new challenge. A sampling of which included playing canoe tag during a camping trip on nearby Scout Island, hiking a 4,000’ mountain in snowshoes in NH, camping in the snow (with all of the right gear to stay warm!), and making pizza in a dutch oven. 

These adventures have had a profound impact on his confidence and independence - plus they have him bragging rights to impress his grandparents! Scouting reset my son’s childhood in a way that I could not be more excited about. As a registered adult in the program, I have been attending the trips and creating new bonding memories that are priceless.”

OUR LADY'S CATHOLIC BOOK SHARE

We have a small Catholic book sharing library in the front foyer of the church. There is so much confusion and chaos in our world today. Reading good solid Catholic books for a half hour each day helps us to relax and grow closer to Jesus and understand the teachings of the Catholic Church. Let us keep our eyes, minds and hearts focused on Jesus and not on the noise.

Books on a shelf do not feed a soul, so we want to share some of these books with you. Most of the books are easy read. Please help yourself to any of the books to enrich your reading and faith. They are available to use during Adoration or to take home. You will also find meditation booklets and prayer cards.

If you have read a Catholic book that has blessed and/or inspired you and would like to add it to our library, please bring the book or books to Sharon in the Parish Office, Monday-Friday’s between the hours of 10:00am-2:00pm. We ask that you not leave any books in the church. The Parish Office is located behind the school building.

Matthew Rohatgi, graduate of Our Lady’s Academy and currently a rising senior at St. Sebastian’s High School in Needham was recently honored with the Catholic Citizenship Award at the undergraduate award ceremony on May 25, 2022. This award is given to a High School Junior who best exemplifies the Catholic values and traditions of St. Sebastian’s School. An active member of Our Lady’s Parish, Matthew has served as an Altar server for five years, is currently a member of the Parish Disciples in Mission, the newly formed young adult group and the Parish Pastoral Council.

O Most loving Mother of God, as I continue the work of your Son, I confidently entrust my priestly calling to you. Guide and protect me that I may be faithful to your Son, Jesus, and His Church, by fulfilling the sacred promises of my priestly vocation.

In my consecration to you, the Queen of Peace, may I ever seek refuge in your Immaculate Heart as I journey on this sacred pilgrimage.

May I grow deeper in my love for the One God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and for His people. Holy Mother, may I remain faithful in God's service to the end.

WE WELCOME SEMINARIAN DAVID JOANIS TO OUR LADY'S

My name is David Joanis, and I am the new seminarian who will be joining you at Our Lady’s for the next two years. I come from Franklin, Massachusetts, where I grew up with two brothers, one sister, and two great parents. I am 24 years old, I have been in seminary for six years so far, and I study at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton. These last two years at Our Lady’s will take me right up to the time of my ordination to the priesthood. I have only been part of the community for just over a week, but I have already seen so much that tells me I am blessed to be here. Please pray that my time at Our Lady’s will be fruitful for the parish, and formative for me. Looking forward to meeting you all!
